Badi Ki Dhar is also known as Badi Dhar. It is a holy place located around sixty kilometers from Shimla. Badi Dhar is located at an altitude of 6781 feet above sea level. It’s is ten kilometers from Piplughat and might be seen from the known Ridge ground of Shimla.
Lovely sights of Shimla will be seen at the top of the hill. It is expected to rain on a fair day every year. Which makes it popular in the whole District. Badi Dhar is famous for its Lord Shiva temple and its annual fair which is organized on 14th and 15th June. Around 5k to 10k people’s gathering is expected on that day.
It is said that the Pandava spent their last year of exile at this place in the caves of the hill and forest. A temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is set here. Native folks call him BaraDev. It is said that Pandavas visited this place after the battle of ” Mahabharata”. After getting the curse for killing their own brothers they went in search of Lord Shiva for MOKSHA.
They had been told by “Narad” that Lord Shiva is sitting on the peak of this range in meditation. After knowing they visited the place with a thought to meet Lord Shiva. As per saying Pandavas reside around the peak for eight days. On a ninth day, they visited meet Lord Shiva. On reaching the highest of mountain Shiva disappears in a very form of buffalo to Kurukshetra. Subsequently, Pandavas created a temple here dedicated to Lord Shiva. Every year people around this valley rehearse the same thing for eight days. Music such as big drums and other local musical instruments. On a ninth day, they visited the height with there 5 deity’s “The Pandavas”. As per native expression, Pandavas visited this place twice.
