Vashisht Temple is assumed to be more than 4000 years old. It is dedicated to saint Vashisht and Lord Rama. Inside the temple, there is a black stone representation of the Rishi wearing a dhoti. The temple is decorated with outstanding and gorgeous carvings on wood. The interior of this temple is traditional which is decorated with conventional painting and figures.
Vashisht Temple is located on the banks of River Ravi. It is the most ancient temple that represents the religion of Hindus. The temple is famous for its holy water. It is believed to have great healing powers that can cure many infections and other skin diseases. There are separate bathrooms for men and women.
It is considered that Rishi Vashisht was depressed on finding out that his children had been killed by Vishwamitra. He tried to commit suicide by jumping into the river but the river refused to kill him. Rishi Vashisht then started a new life in the village. The river which took Rishi Vashisht to the village was named “Vipasha”. It means freedom from bondage. This river is also known as the Beas River.
There is another stone temple known as Rama Temple nearby Vashisht Temple. According to Mythology, Lakshman once paid a visit and realized that the Sage has to go far to take bath. He then shot an arrow into the ground and hot water began to spurt out.
Vashisht village is an important place associated with pilgrims. There are dining places and cafes along with the main road. It offers the best view of old Manali and Beas River. Watching the sunset and the river will leave a lasting vivid image in your mind.
